Google Soon Bringing Balloon Powered Internet Project To India

Google – The Tech Giant is seemingly in talks with the government of India to launch its balloon-powered internet and kite-powered wind energy projects in India. Google's Loon project, which was presented two years ago, makes usage of high-altitude balloons, which targets to deliver inexpensive internet to five billion folks worldwide, living in far-flung areas with no access to the internet presently.

Ballon powered Internet

The pump-up part of the balloon is called a balloon envelope. A well-made balloon envelope is precarious for allowing a balloon to last around 100 days in the stratosphere. Loon’s balloon envelopes are prepared from sheets of polyethylene plastic. These balloon envelope measure fifteen meters in width and twelve meters in height when fully inflated. When a balloon is ready to be taken to service, gas is released from the envelope to get the balloon down to Earth. In the improbable event that a balloon drops too fast to ground, a parachute embedded to the top of the envelope is used.

Project Loon balloons travel approximately 20 km above the surface of Earth in the stratosphere layer. Winds waves in the stratosphere layer are stratified. Each wind layer differs in speed and direction. Project Loon uses software algorithm to decide where its balloons is required to go, then moves each balloon into a wind layer blowing in the right direction.  Each balloon can offer connectivity to a ground area of 40 km in diameter using a wireless communications technology called LTE. To use LTE, Project Loon allies with telecommunications companies like Airtel to share cellular spectrum so that folks will be able to access the Internet everywhere right from their smartphones and other LTE-supported devices.

Given the prominence to renewable energy in India, Google is also planning to bring its kite-powered wind energy to India. An airplane-like kite bound up to 300 meters which maneuvers by the path of the wind. The movement of this kite produces power.  If everything goes well then, Google hopes to begin production in 2016 for both Balloon and Kite Project.
