Last year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg announced his plans of expanding
the internet connectivity of the world from about 25% now to a full century!
The planet suffering from overpopulation, unemployment, lack of basic amenities
and illiteracy just had an Eye-opener for its priorities. And hence the debate:
water or internet?
Doesn't it sound more
reasonable that internet is the more important resource compared to water?
Think about it. We need internet every day. Man can live without water for
three days but a day without internet will most probably cause riots all around
the world!
A suitable measure of the
two's relative strengths is the frequency at which they are available: how many
days have you seen when the electricity supply is cut off, leaving the water
pump useless and the water tank empty? Quite a few, most certainly, but have
you ever read a newspaper headline "Satellite blah-blah won't be
transmitting any data today, so you'll have to write your assignment without
Wikipedia this time." Of course NO! Water may be expendable but not the
net!
Well if that's not enough
proof for you, try this: name some dream companies you'd like to work in.Google? Facebook? Amazon? Flipkart?
Are those it? Aquafina anybody? Or perhaps
Kinley? That's a shame. Why won't anybody try to work towards providing clean
distilled water to the world? It's as simple as that: water is just not worth
it!
It's a well known fact that
demand is directly proportional to value. Hence to sum up the arguments, you
may throw away a bottle of water worth 20 bucks but can you turn off your
mobile data after buying a Rs.200 3G recharge? The case rests. Zuckerberg was
then indeed correct in his assessment of the priorities for the human race.
'Cause the day our water resources are all exploited, we'll most certainly need
YouTube and ahem ahem other sites for the last three days.
