Chinese smartphone producer Xiaomi has said that it will be making actions
against sites offering its smartphones in India. Xiaomi and Ericsson are in a
lawsuit in which Ericsson accuses Xiaomi of using its intellectual property on
technology for wireless communication.
Initially, Xiaomi smartphone deals were totally banned in India. On the
other hand, Xiaomi effectively persuaded a Delhi court that its Qualcomm-fueled
gadgets shouldn’t influenced by the ban. Ericsson still states that even then
Xiaomi should pay the license fee despite the chipset being used.
Nonetheless, some are still selling these banned phones which are
causing a problem for Xiaomi. Xiaomishop.com was alleged, by Ericsson, of
offering banned MediaTek based-gadgets; however the site is not an approved
retailer in the nation.
There are several other sites other than Xiaomishop.com which sell these
phones in the country and there is an active ban on these sites as well. Just
Flipkart and Airtel are approved Xiaomi in India.
In an attempt to decrease IP allegations and further follow Indian laws,
Xiaomi is planning to open an assembly line in India. Foxconn and Inventec are
recorded as potential partners in this regard, yet it’s not confirmed.
As Xiaomi keeps on venturing into new markets, it is sure to experience
further snags and patent debate. Talking in San Francisco not long ago,
Xiaomi's Hugo Barra recognized that IP suit is an inexorable part of working
together. Keeping in mind the end goal to better shield itself, the Chinese
organization amassed more than 2,800 licenses of its own in 2014.
With the rise of Xiaomi many companies are in active competition with
this company. Some websites are taking advantage of this distraction of Xiaomi
and selling banned products. Make sure that the vendor you are buying from is
legitimate or there may be undesired consequences.
