WhatsApp recently started
testing a beta version of its free voice calling update in India and has been making the rounds on the internet, but the
beta-testing was just confirmed by the head of the company Neeraj Arora.
Soon after the leak of the
screenshots feature in action, online by a Reddit user pradnesh07, the BGR
India confirmed the beta-testing of voice calling on WhatsApp. This besides
being official news also brings a closer look at the much-awaited feature of
the whatsapp.
The screenshots shared by BGR last
week are much in line with those shared by pradnesh07. According to the
resources, the voice-calling feature was activated after Neeraj Arora called in
to "check the audio quality."
The call button started appearing
on WhatsApp's iPhone app, which seems to be a preparation when WhatsApp flips
the switch on. The upgraded app's interface has been divided into three
different parts which are chats, contacts and calls. There's a notification
alert for missed calls and the new call tab keeps a record of all recent voice
calls. Moreover, while on a call with another user, you can even check messages
and navigate through other phone activities without hanging up.
As we know that Hike
had already announced the launch of the VoIP feature in its app. But the
drawback lies in the difficulty to use the function when your network
connection is spotty. So here is good news to you that WhatsApp’s little
addition works on 3G as well as EDGE. This feature was soon noticed after BGR tested the feature, he found that the voice-calling
worked seamlessly on 3G and EDGE networks. This feature is a great addition for
users in India as getting a stable 3G network all the time is quiet challenging.
In fact, the quality of the WhatsApp voice call was found to be better than
that of a regular cellular call.
Above all, users with a Wi-Fi connection
can make calls to almost all the contacts on their phone which will not cost
anything.
