Google's Android Journey Got A Sad Ending

The latest research from the Strategy Analytics said that the shipment of smartphones grew to a 30% during the 2014. And the Android mobiles contributed around 81% of it and they shipped over 1 billion. Though it seems like good news. The story is almost like “Calm before the storm”. It’s because the seemed to have company shipped a lot of AOSP also known as the forked version of Android which don't come with the Google’s services.

AOSP Google

It’s said that the company sold almost 35% of smartphones based on the forked version of Android. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is the “pure” android version which the Google modified as Jellybean, KitKat etc… Though the company shipped 205 million Android smartphones in its fourth quarter it also shipped around 85 million AOSP version smartphones. Though the AOSP was initially built for hobby projects which will let us build our own version of Android. Now it has become a big affair for Google.

Since a lot of Google services are banned in China the growth of AOSP was first sighted there. Even the “Apple of China” the Xiaomi uses MIUI which is also an Android version which has its Google Services removed. The growth of Apple’s iOS is also increasing by day and so is the growth of AOSP. It’s not over yet they have another problem too.

There were people telling that Cyanogen Inc is trying to take Google away from Android. Though it seemed a little funny The Wall Street Journal report said that Microsoft will be funding around $70 million. Seems like Cyanogen and Microsoft are pairing up for a fight against Google to take it down. There are rumors already telling that Microsoft will run Android soon. Though this whole thing looks a little crazy, Google better step up the game.
