YouTube
is launching a child-friendly app which aims at bringing kid-appropriate
content to mobile users.The
free YouTube Kids app will be available for download only on Android devices
and would be available from Feb. 23. Though, there is no word on iOS availability.
This
app designed exclusively for smartphones and tablets, will feature original
content from Talking Tom and Friends, Mother Goose Club, DreamWorks TV, Jim
Henson TV and many more. Moreover, programs from Thomas the Tank Engine ,National
Geographic Kids and Reading
Rainbow will provide hours of free babysitting and a great relief to the
parents.
YouTube Kids is making a great commitment to
give families a safe environment to to develop in them a sense of curiosity
while still entertaining as state by Reading Rainbow's LeVar Burton. One
can browse playlists and channels in four categories i.e. Explore, Shows ,
Learning, and Music. Or can even search for topics like spaceships or seashells
to find videos of their likes to feed your kids' curiosity. The app is expected
to have parental controls for your children’s welfare.
Do
keep an eye on the new content from Stampylonghead and YouTubers Vlogbrothers ,
as well. The
Kids' Vice President of National Geographic Digital, Michelle Sullivan said
that they want kids of all ages and the grownups to enjoy their playlists and
spark their curiosity to explore out in the world and learn more.
The
news of this plan was confirmed by the Web giant in December to create versions
of its popular products specifically designed for consumers of 12 years and
younger. But Google will have to comply with Children's Online Privacy
Protection Act (COPPA), which requires websites to obtain parental consent
before gathering information on kids under 13.
