Alibaba which is a good-known website and company for e-commerce, is not restricted to be just that, it actually aspires to be much more than that. It has various successful initiatives, one of which is the affiliate Ant Financial. Some others like the operating system Aliyun and the mobile messaging app called Laiwang, are yet to become big. This company is still continuing to build its portfolio for software services, but the application called the DingTalk, which is a combination of collaboration and messaging app for the small-to-medium sized businesses is quite good.
The app DingTalk, which was launched recently and is currently available only in the Chinese language and it firstly entered the beta testing in December 2014.

Creating a product which is geared towards SMBs, is a smart move for Alibaba as it can be used to market DingTalk to about 8.5 million active sellers on the e-commerce site. Alternatively, DingTalk had to compete with the WeChat from Tencent’s, which is actually China’s top messaging app till now with about 470 million users.

The WeChat application is basically targeted mostly for the individual users, but the app had launched the enterprise accounts, which has higher security service and it allows the company’s employees to collaborate with the projects and share the files like PDF documents. Moreover, it also offers accounts designed for marketers and brands.
Both the companies Tencent and Alibaba are two of the China’s top internet companies. They already have large ecosystems which can be used to tap into through the draw users to the new products. Like the technologically advanced companies, but, DingTalk also faces some competition from certain schedule of enterprise for the messaging apps that are also from the Chinese companies, like Fengche, Maimai, Mingdao and WorkingIM, and IMO.

Despite the fact that Alibaba has struggled a lot to get the mobile software service to gain some traction, it actually continues to cultivate money from the related businesses, for example its $600million investment in the smart phone maker called Meizu. When DingTalk will manage to become more successful than Laiwang and Aliyun, it would be helpful to prove that the feasibility of Alibaba’s aspiration is far beyond e-commerce.
