Asus made a splendid entry at the
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year with the Asus Zenfone 2 which features the latest 64-bit Intel Atom
quad core mobile processor. Soon after, Asus unveiled plans to release other variants
of the phone to target the mid-range smartphone market as well. The name of this model of the Zenfone 2 series is yet not officially announced. But the reports do coincide with previous announcements made by Asus regarding the smartphone.
We have come
up with a recent leak on the internet today. It appears to be a 5-inch Zenfone
2 variant along with its flagship i.e. 5.5-inch brother. Asus hinted that the
lower end phones would still have high definition displays, but would run on
lower tier processors with less RAM. This mid
ranged Zenfone 2 variant would possibly possess an HD display albeit but only
at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Coming up on to the processor this phone
is reportedly going to have Intel’s first generation Intel Atom processor,
rather than a down scale version of the 64-bit Intel Atom chip which was to be
included in the flagship Zenfone 2 model which was showcased this year at CES. The Intel Atom Z2580 will still
perform well with a 2 GHz of dual core processing power which is more likely to
be adequate for any mid ranged smartphone users.
This Zenfone 2 variant would
still be capable of some light multi-tasking as it features the Intel Atom
Z2580 paired with 2GB of RAM. As for radio connectivity, the mid ranged phone
will surely support a wide array of LTE carrier bands as reported, which is a
must at this point. The leaked Zenfone 2 variant will be running Android 5.0
Lollipop. The latest version of Asus Zen User Interface will be running on top
of Android Lollipop but it appears to be lightweight in case of interface.

This leak suggests more great things are coming from
Asus in the smartphone market. Running on Android Lollipop and that too with
LTE connectivity and an HD display, Asus will certainly be capable of competing
the other mid ranged handsets in the market. It is expected that the official announcement
of the phone would be on March 9th with the launch of an initial red
model, with more colors possible. Since this leak is not official so the
details may certainly change till the official unveiling.
