Android One Phones In India To Get Lollipop Update Next Week

It seems like Google's low-cost Android One smartphones will finally receive the Android Lollipop software update as announced by a Google spokesperson  for all three Android One handsets - Karbonn Sparkle VSpice Dream,  and UnoMicromax Canvas A1 all simultaneously. Specific details about the upcoming Android 5.0 Lollipop compared to other Android One smartphones in countries could be shared, though more information can be expected later.

Android Lollipop

This  Android One initiative of Google aimed to offer a smooth smartphone experience to entry-level phone users in emerging markets. Though Google promised Android One users that they would be the first to receive updates yet that promise was not kept with companies like HTC, LG, Motorola,  and Samsung as they have already provided Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to some of their smartphones. But obviously the Nexus series of tablets and smartphones were the first to receive updates, with the 2013 Nexus 5 getting its update in November.

Android Lollipop

Three Android One smartphones are launched in India till date. They
are all dual-SIM with some common specifications: 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor a 4.5-inch (480x854 pixels) IPS FWVGA display; a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash; a 2-megapixel front camera; 1GB of RAM, 4GB of inbuilt storage; expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 32GB); Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, and a 1700mAh battery. Whereas it seems that Acer, Asus, Alcatel, Intex, HTC, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic, Xolo and Qualcomm would soon join the Android One programme.

Android Lollipop being the most ambitious release of the mobile operating system is still not on sufficient number of devices. According to Google, the Lollipop build powers only 1.6% of Android devices. Google tracked the data on Android devices while computing the statistics. It does not include the data for Android versions that are on less than 0.1% of the devices tracked.
