Airtel Launches New 3G Super Budget Smartphone



The Bharti Airtel has launched its first 3G smartphone customized with pan-Africa just for $53. Airtel Africa’s CEO Christian de Faria stated that being Airtel they are focused on migrating the new and existing customers from the usual feature phones to Android smartphones with an advantage of Airtel's 3G networks. Moreover, they anticipate high uptake levels in the first six months of operations.

This phone has an Android KitKat platform base. It features a memory of 4GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM and with a 32 GB external memory storage capacity so the storage can be according to the user. It provides a 1300mAh battery life and is coming with 3MP selfie shooter and rear camera. This low budget phone is equipped with a Qualcomm dual core Central Processing Unit. To provide simple and quick access to services like Airtel mobile money different popular social media applications to the customers, special attention was given to the layout of the device and the user interface. 


The company is launching a new smartphone campaign to help accelerate data adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa which has currently witnessed one of the strongest increases in mobile data users in the world. According to experts, mobile internet traffic across Africa will double by 2015, and a 20-fold increase would be seen by the end of the decade. Airtel that conquered 17 markets has the widest 3G network in Africa. The June 2014 Sub-Saharan African Mobility reports, data usage in Africa have increased with 3G technology, outstripping 2G to become the region's dominant form of mobile connection.

The device will be sold at $53 after being subject to various governments’ levies and would be available at local retail outlets. It is basically available in Burkina Faso markets, Seychelles and Uganda with 14 other Airtel Operating Countries which are expected to launch the mobile devices in the next few weeks.The phone offers feedback options to allow Airtel to adapt the interface in line with customer feedback and research.
