While
most of us are waiting for the showcase of smartphones like HTC One M9 and
Samsung Galaxy S6 we almost forgot that there are even a few more interesting
debuts from smaller companies. MWC being one of the important events there will
be lots of interesting tech news and debuts of smartphones and gadgets. One of
them which I found very amusing was the solar powered smartphone. While
everyone is curious about wireless chargers, Kyocera took a step forward and
will now show us a prototype of the solar powered smartphone at the MWC 2015.
Kyocera
has joined hands with a French company SunPartner Technologies and used their product
called Wysips crystal panel to charge the smartphone through solar power. This
crystal panel is just 0.5mm thick and will be placed under the touch screen.
You might imagine keeping your phone out in the sun to boost up your charge.
But you don’t have to make your smartphone to take a sun bath as it can charge
up from sun light and also artificial lights.
The
Wysips crystal combines both optical and photovoltaic technologies together
which makes the modules flexible and able to charge up with both natural and
artificial lightings. It’s still in the prototype level and the time used to
charge up is still yet unknown. If this comes into regular use it will be more
helpful when we need charge to send an important message or make a call.
SunPartner also said that they are willing to make use of this technology with other OEM
devices in future. All we can do at this stage is to wait for the first
smartphone to make use of the solar powered smartphone. More information about
this new idea will be revealed at the MWC.
