Tizen vs Android: A Comparison

After a chain of rumours along with the increasing following of Samsung, the company released its all new fresh Tizen handset in India, named Z1. The era has been set such that the talk of the town is now the OS this handset has rather than the specs and design! The long time partners Google and Samsung are not going to walk along with this step undertaken by Samsung.

After a hard fight with Symbian, Google emerged as the world power. The advent of Tizen along with the OSs like Ubuntu, Firefox etc come for sharing the Android Market. At this point of time, one cannot firmly say about Tizen and Android- Whether Tizen will give Android a tough fight or whether Android can possibly kill the other one. Well that’s for you to decide this upcoming. Let us have a look on both the Android and Tizen, on paper atleast.

Linux is an open source programming OS. Tizen is based upon it. You can actually tinker with your device (device’s software). This facility has also been provided earlier by the feature named TouchWiz to tinker Android in Samsung Phones. The source code is provided on the basis of Webkit and Linux kernel runtime. The Limo project (of Intel) and Meego (which was abandoned by Nokia) are set to merge for the project Tizen. Whereas some believe that Tizen is nothing but Meego reframed.

Tizen vs Android

Multi Platform:

Android is heavier than Tizen; yeah you can actually feel that Tizen is lighter than Android OS. The low end phones can also enjoy Tizen-the reason of Android being ditched. Till date, in countries like India, Nokia is still established because of its good low end phones. Samsung is trying to woo this market of lower middle class people. A separate OS, Android Wear was crafted for wearables by Google. This was the result of Tizen being introduced. TVs and other wearables of Samsung are being deployed with Tizen. But hell yeah! With the launching of Lollipop, Google is also trying to get into other platforms via Android.

User Interface:

In order to avoid the condition for the customers to see something drastically new, Tizen is not being launched with something new that Samsung wasn’t offering.  One will get the same feeling of the looks and the other features as if nothing has changed in Samsung. It is believed that Tizen shall be used only in low end phones and not in the high range phones of Samsung i.e. the premium lines of phones. But one shall not see the OS on which the device is running but the camera and other features(like apps) shall be of greater importance, in the low end phones.

Although the representation is such that these two OSs are very much different but the fact is that Tizen looks a lot like Android. The feature of Samsung, TouchWiz User Interface is almost similar to Tizen. There is a notification tray like that of the Android. The App Launcher is kinda different from that of the Android as you have to slide your cursor upside. There are 4X3 launcher screens in Z1 along with eight or around app shortcuts (which are fixed). This is a great feature indeed; as it allows you the assigning of up to eight shortcuts on your lock screen. The latest update of Android OS has been the reason of improvement in notifications. The responding to the messages can be done directly from the lock screen, or you can even hide some notifications; (notifications from your girlfriend). There is a mode called “Priority Mode” which when turned on will allow only specific people from getting the notifications. These specific people are formed by the owner’s choice. There is motto of Android, “Consistent Design” which enables all the devices to use the Material Design. Now what is Material Design: with this feature, you can shrink/expand the elements dynamically. By this feature only, theres more white space in between the elements implying a 3D appearance as well!

Tizen vs Android

If the case of phones is considered, then one will definitely vote for Android Lollipop over Tizen. Features like burst mode are easier to operate on in Android L. With the frequency of 30fps, one can capture maximum resolution frames. Not only this much, one can even shoot with the above parameters in raw formats (YUV, etc). Suppose you are far from any power outlet, the most important thing for you would be your cell’s battery. It can be extended upto 90 minutes with the Battery Saver feature turned on. It can extend your battery time upto an hour or two!

Apps:

Tizen vs Android

OS means nothing but a complete ecosystem for any individual. Ecosystem consists of a pile of Apps. Most of the regions didn’t see the launching of Tizen because it lacked behind Android in terms of Apps. It is due to this reason only that the company has started making apps for Tizen; just like Nokia used to do for Symbian.

Final Conclusion:

Since so many years, Google has been honored because of the Android OS. The latest Android i.e. Lollipop has so many new features like refined camera options and so on. Tizen is a beginner. It is lack of refined features and mediocre store for apps. It would be a folly to comment on the competition level between the two but one must admit that Tizen has a long way to go, for now at least! For being updated, please subscribe us!
