Apple’s
former CEO John Sculley is the co-founder of Inflexionpoint, a Singapore based
firm that promotes and invests in obi mobiles.
It
is rumored that Sculley wants to conquer Apple with his new smartphone Obi
Octopus s520, but the in fact he has launched it in an affordable range
(INR 12,000 approx) and is competing in the lower end market. As it is going to
embark on its journey starting from India, Indian market is going to see a surge
of obi mobiles near Diwali.
It
is currently the cheapest smartphone that provides an octa-core processor and
is quite impressive in terms of display and camera. In the current scenario,
markets are flooded with Karbonn, Asus, Xolo, Micromax, Motorola and Xiaomi
phones. They all have established themselves in the market with a decent
performance and build quality. So, it will be quite a challenge for Sculley to
impress customers with a smartphone that lacks a good design and battery
backup. Infact if by increasing the budget a little, one can get a Xiaomi Mi3
which is superior to Obi Octopus s520 in all respects, thereby thwarting interested customers from investing their money in a new brand.
In
case of design they really tried hard to make it similar to Apple’s iPhone. They
made back panel of metal and camera lies on top left corner with flash. The
difference is that the back panel is removable which is not possible in iPhone.
Also there is no edge to pull the back panel so user has to work hard to remove
its back panel. But overall the design is not up to the mark. The full plain
design might not work to user’s taste.

Final Conclusion:
Pros of Octopus S520:
- 5 inches of display fits the user’s pocket.
- Giving dual SIM facility lets you to use two SIM simultaneously.
- 8 GB of internal memory let you to store big amount of data as pictures, videos and files etc.
- Front camera facility is also available for video calling.
- Android OS kit kat (v4.4.2) is fabulous at this price range.
- Octa-core processor with 1.7 GHz of clock speed is appreciable.
Cons of Octopus S520:
- Old processor is provided.
- GPU is also not so good.
- Battery life is also not so good.
Considering the price of this smartphone I can say that these are the best
features which can be provided. But when I see Xiaomi Mi3, I think it is not
bad to spent 2000 INR extra to buy Xiaomi. Because Xiaomi is giving the entire
high end features which are comparable to Nexus 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4.
If
I am going to purchase a smartphone I would definitely go for Xiaomi Mi3. Because
the way that smartphone has got the success in Indian market is unbelievable.
