Canonical is finally going
to enter into the smartphone market with a novelty in mobile market i.e. Ubuntu
phone. After years of promises, canonical has first two manufacturers of Ubuntu
phones i.e. Meizu and BQ Readers which will release their handsets with the
Linux-based OS which is an open source operating system where you can download all
applications without any cost. Till now there is no information about release
date and price but we will update you about this information when these are
official.
However the bad news for
canonical is that Meizu and BQ readers, companies which canonical hired for
making their handset, don't have a big presence in United State of
America, so there is a very less chances of picking up a high-end Ubuntu phone
on Verizon in 2014. But as everyone knows Meizu is a Chinese company and it is
well established in China and BQ Readers has a big presence in Spain, things might be advantageous for Canonical in these regions. Shuttleworth, the founder of
canonical said that “part of the reason these two particular companies were
chosen was because of their "tactical" method for delivering handsets
to specific markets with carefully targeted features and specs”.
Company aims to have the
top 50 mobile applications on Ubuntu by the end of the year, which is a big
goal and difficult to achieve. Till now, some of the great applications like Evernote,
LastPass are entitled in Ubuntu Operating System, but there's still a lot of
work to do.
Features
and Specifications:
A
complete “Ubuntu desktop” for docked Android phones
“Ubuntu for Android”
provides you a full desktop experience i.e. you will have a feel of using a
desktop which includes office software, web browsing and media applications, on
Android phones which is docked to a “screen” and “keyboard”. So it will be a
new experience for the user.
Unified
contacts
Both Android and Ubuntu access
the same mobile “address book”. You can view, call, message, edit or email a
contact. You can even check their social media profiles.
Calendar
coordination
As with your contacts,
your Android calendar data is shared with Ubuntu. This enables synchronization
with any desktop or web-based calendar application, like “Google Calendar”.
Messaging
and calls
You can read and reply to
incoming SMS from the desktop, using Ubuntu application. You can call whoever
you want and receive incoming calls via the desktop — and you'll be alerted to
voicemails so you can manage them while you work.
Secure
full-featured web
You can enjoy a full
desktop browser i.e. you can use multi-tab, multi-window to do your important
work. It also supports both Chrome and Firefox which are the world's fastest
browsers. Ubuntu is resistant to web malware i.e. there is no chance of any
type of virus. This is the main reason why so many big companies and
governments are adopting Ubuntu on desktops.
Simple
integrated settings
There will be some simple
settings which will be very much useful in our life like Alarm clock settings can
be synchronized to alert you. You'll have one place to enter “Wi-Fi passwords”
and one place to pair your “Bluetooth headset”, and then everything will work
together in sync.
Social
networking services
All your Android social
network account like Facebook, twitter, Google+ all are synchronized, using the
“Ubuntu social networking client” to provide easy access to your online
communities. So you can have fun and talk with your buddies with this great
application.
Photos
You can manage and view photos
which are stored in either in your internal memory or your memory card, using
the Ubuntu Gallery application. You can do whatever you want like crop or edit
on “Ubuntu desktop” and save them back to the smartphone. So it is a good
application for the customers.
Conclusion:
