Micromax, a widely
known company which dominates the entry level and mid-range smartphone markets
has been getting some serious competition from Motorola Moto E - the first ever
below-Rs 10,000 smartphone by Motorola with the latest Android KitKat version.
To counter this quality competition Micromax, has now launched three new
smartphones with the Android KitKat OS. These have been named as Canvas Unite
2, Canvas A105, and Canvas Engage.
These three phones
have almost same features like the same display resolution (480x800 pixels),
Quad core processor, 5 MP auto focus primary camera, Android KitKat (4.4) OS, 4
GB ROM, 0.3 MP secondary camera, and 32 GB expandable storage.
However we feel
that Micromax Unite 2 is the best among the three on them and it could give a
hard time to Moto E. Let us see how these 2 smartphones priced at INR 6,999
fare against each other.

Design:
The Micromax
Canvas Unite 2 has definitely left all its competitors behind in terms of
design. The rubberized rear side of this is extremely good for the grip. It
also curves towards the edges and corners which makes it comfortable to hold
and provides an extremely good grip.
The Unite 2 is
available in 2 colors namely – Black and White. However the black version looks
unequivocally stunning and refined opposed to its price tag. The shiny Micromax
logo only adds to its beauty.
Display
Micromax Canvas
Unite 2 has a 4.7 inch display with 480x800 pixels resolution as opposed to a
4.3 inch qHD of Moto E. The poor resolution is a problem but the effect can be
nearly negated with high brightness setting . The display is not scratch
resistant unlike the Moto E and that is a grave negative point of this phone.
Considering Moto E
the display is mediocre and not appreciable.
Camera:
The Micromax Unite
2 has a 5 MP auto focus primary camera. It has a LED flash too which is great!!
There is also a 2 MP secondary camera for
video calling and other functionalities. It also has panorama, Beauty face,
HDR, and Live Photo mode (captures videos and snaps images at same time).
The front camera
is one of the best in this price range. It has a wide angle of capture and
colors are also captured accurately just like the rear camera. It works well in
both low and strong light.
Storage and Connectivity:
The Micromax Unite
2 has 4 GB internal storage. A micro SD card slot has been provided that is
expandable up to 32 GB.It is the default storage nowadays in sub 10k phones. Since
it is priced at just Rs 6,999, we can’t complain about its average internal
memory.
As far as
connectivity is concerned it is appreciable as well. It has two SIM slots of which one supports 3G connectivity. All
other major functionality has been provided as well.
Performance:
The Unite 2 is equipped
with the Quad core 1.3 Ghz Mediatek MT6582M processor. This is backed by Mali 400MP2 GPU and 1 GB RAM.
For INR 6,999, it is
definitely awesome.
Battery Output:
The Micromax
Canvas Unite 2 has a 2000 mAh battery. Micromax claims 8 hours of talktime and
190 hours of standby which is quite average however it provides more than that
on a medium usage.
Support for 21 language:
The most publicized
feature of the Micromax Canvas Unite 2 isn't as great as our expectations. The
language change option is available only for messaging and not the entire
phone.
Also the words and
letters for some languages are not available. Also if the recipient doesn’t
have the language support they won’t be able to read the message at all.
Pros:
- Has decent performance and can also handle
multi-tasking.
- Camera quality and output is great.
- Great design- Comfortable and
fashionable.
Cons:
- Doesn’t have qHD resolution or Gorilla
Glass protection for display.
- Heats up quickly on high level use.
- Unsatisfactory language support.
Conclusion:
Considering the
lack of quality smartphones in the sub INR 10000 range Micromax Unite 2 is a
great smartphone. The Unite 2 is the best smartphone that Micromax offers at
present in this segment. The design is refined and it has great performance and
camera support. Having Android Kitkat makes it faster and smooth as well.
However the display has a great room for improvement.
Since Moto E is
not available offline but only through online retailers like Flipkart, Unite 2
has a serious shot at being the Best smartphone under INR 10000.
