If you are a fan of Apple
devices it is good to know that there are some great apps that can be very
useful. You should not neglect what Apple is offering, so you can prevent some unpleasant
situations. I am talking about the probability to lose your device or that
someone steals it. It is not exciting thinking that your phone can be stolen,
but just by some small efforts you can feel safe.
I already experienced that
myself, and it was really not a nice situation to be. I was feeling like a big
part of me was missing and that someone had access in all of my pictures, phone
contacts, notes and much more. I started immediately searching in the internet
what could I do to find it back, but what I got to know, is that it was too
late for using any apps. I should had previously installed so that I could
track my iPhone.
Well, it feels bad to know
that you had something in your hands but didn't do it. So after searching for a
new iPhone (here I found the best option while waiting for the new iPhone 6), the first thing I did when I bought my new phone, was installing
those security apps. It just took me some minutes and it was very easy to
install and activate. No matter if you were drunk in a bar, or you got lost in
a big airport, everyone felt at least once the sensation of missing the iPhone,
iPad, iPod or Mac.
Find my iPhone
Find my iPhone (link) is
a very cool app which shows the location of your lost device. It is available
in App Store and optimized for all the devices which have iOS 5 or a later
version. For using this you would first need an iCloud account and what is very
important, internet coverage.
It is very easy to
download it. You just need to go in the App Store and type in the search bar
'Find my iPhone'. After getting the list with results you go in the tab 'Free'
for downloading it without costing you anything. With just one click in the
download button you get the app right away.
The other step is
activating it. As I previously mentioned, you need an iCloud account. If you
don't have, maybe now it's time to create one. You go in Settings and choose
the iCloud option. If you already have it, you enter your Apple ID in the
pop-up window, otherwise you should choose get a free Apple ID. After following
the given instructions, you finally have an iCloud account. After signing in,
go to the Find my iPhone and turned it ON. You will get a pop-window which asks
if you want to allow it. Tap the Allow button and you have successfully
activated the app. I don't wish that, but in case it really happens that your
device is lost or stolen you use your iCloud account via the Web and you will
be able to see the location of your device.
Activation Lock
The Activation Lock is a
very new feature which is included in the Find my iPhone app but that it is supported only by the iOS 7.
This feature is designed to prevent unauthorized persons to use your Apple
device in case you lose it or it was stolen. The Activation Lock only works if
you have turned on the Find my iPhone.
Activation Lock asks for
the Apple ID and password before other people can erase your device, open your
personal things, before turning off the Find my iPhone or re-activating your
device. By activating this feature you will feel safer that your pictures,
contacts and everything are not in the wrong hands. For this to work, you
always need to keep the Find my iPhone turned on and what is more important you
should be able to remember the Apple ID and your password.

Activate the Lost Mode
If you find out that your
device is missing, do not panic! The first step to make is to activate the Lost
Mode. You need to enter a four-digit passcode so that no one is able to access
your personal information. With this mode you can also display a contact phone
number and a message you customize yourself which will appear in your lost
device screen. The person that has it, he can call directly from your phone but
without accessing any other information.
Remote Erase
If you are really
concerned about your privacy and you have important information that no one
should see or use, you may erase everything from your device. This can be done
using the Remote Erase. Don't need to be afraid though, because you can always
restore again everything by using the iCloud backup.
