In recent times we have seen a stagnation
in the features that all the smartphones are equipped with. The hardware is almost same in the phones of a given price range and the user interface has
nothing more than what the standard Android versions have to offer. However
Amazon has decided to step up the game by unveiling its most hyped smartphone
Amazon Fire Phone. With the launch of this phone Amazon hopes to catch up to
companies like HTC, Samsung, Apple, etc. by out-featuring the competition.
Just as our leaks for this phone( read it here) indicated the Fire
phone is a 3D capable flagship smartphone with high end configurations and
surprising new features. The 4.7-inch device boasts a 2.2GHz quad-core
processor, an Adreno 339 graphics processor and 2GB of RAM. It runs Amazon's
custom version of Android, called Fire OS, and the design has Gorilla Glass on
both the front and the back.
As rumored, the Fire Phone's display is
capable of display 3D images. Amazon calls the technology Dynamic Perspective,
with a 3D effect that adds an illusion of depth behind the screen, rather than
outward. The phone uses four special front-facing cameras, all with a wide
field of view, to detect where the user's head is at all times
Every camera is equipped with an infrared light so the Fire Phone's 3D
effect should work even in low-light conditions. Every camera is equipped with

This device has a 2.2GHz quad-core
processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processor and 2GB of RAM which is more than
enough to run this device smoothly. The hardware is that of a high end phone,
however more was expected from this flagship.
The Fire
phone definitely stands out with its amazing array of features.
Let’s
check out a few of them here.
Dynamic Perspective:
It's arguably the best feature of Fire
phone revealed. Amazon claims the head and eye tracking tech empowers it to do
things which are impossible on other devices. The 3D technology allows Fire
phone to respond to the way a user interacts with the phone. Navigating apps
and web pages can be done easily with the help of auto-scrolling. While playing
games one can also move their head to look around corners or above obstacles if
such functionality is enabled in the app.
The 3D
display could also be used for browsing and shopping. By tilting the phone, a
user can traverse between items in the list.
Firefly:
Firefly is a private Amazon tool. Firefly
lets users to categorize 100 million different items using the rear facing
camera of the smartphone. Firefly identifies printed text on posters, business
cards, etc. and can save new contacts, make calls, and visit websites without
having to type long addresses.
Firefly can also recognize movies, TV
episodes and live TV channels. Firefly uses X-Ray app, powered by IMDb and
provides information regarding plot details, actors and related content.
Similar to the app-Shazam, Firefly identifies songs, artist information and
download albums directly to your smartphone.
Other features:
Amazon is
giving free and unlimited storage on Amazon Cloud Drive. The Fire phone will
automatically back up photos and videos to Amazon Cloud Drive.
The Mayday
button gives the user direct access to an Amazon expert via a live video. They
will guide the user through any feature by drawing on the screen, walking
through how to do something, or doing it for you.
For Amazon
Prime users, Amazon is giving free two-day shipping on items, unlimited
streaming of top movies and TV shows, and more. The users can also borrow a
book for free from the Kindle owners' Lending Library, as frequently as a book
a month, with no waiting and no due dates.
Conclusion:
The Amazon Fire Phone has certainly taken a step in a different direction from
phones today. This isn't an ordinary phones filled with specs to compete in the market — it's Amazon's vision of what a smartphone
should be, and it's packed in enough features to keep the high end device users
interested. The price of the device might be of concern though. But that
doesn't dull the excitement about the Fire Phone.
